Physical Therapy for 10 - 12 weeks:
1. Initiate progressively longer walks on a short lead. Start by gradually increasing the length of the walks to 1 or 2 blocks. If your dog is comfortable at this distance for a few days then you can double the length of walk. If your dog appears uncomfortable during or after walks you should cut the length of the walk back to the last distance at which your dog was comfortable. Your dog will benefit more from several short walks during the day as opposed to a single long walk.
2. Perform 'sit to stands' 10 repetitions 3 times daily.
3. Figure of eight walks. 3 to surgical side , 1 to non-surgical side; 3 repetitions 2 times daily.
4. Start slow stair climbing; 5 flights 2 times daily.
5. Light swimming is permitted.
So today I've increased the walk by 2 blocks. Zeus has been doing awesome, and so we'll see how he feels and adjust accordingly. We also started the sit to stands and I'll do the figure eights on the next walk in the evening.
I'm excited to be able to increase his walks, in a couple of weeks we'll be able to increase the speed of his walks and allow for back and forth activity on the leash.
